Description
Was the Word
The Storytelling, Poetry and Music Show
Presented by Working Group Theatre
Was the Word is Working Group Theatre's monthly spoken word and storytelling event at The Englert Theatre in downtown Iowa City. Each event brings together community members and local performers to share their words and experiences on stage to benefit local non-profits or community service groups.
This evening we will be joined by Sean C. Lewis, Megan Gogerty, Saffron Henke, Jennifer Fawcett, Tim Budd, Martin Andrews, and Kate Krohn - all gathered together to celebrate a year in the life of Working Group Theatre. Mutiny in the Parlor will entertain us with their musical stylings. Beer and wine are available with proper ID.
The evening will provide a look back at Working Group's artistic achievement over the last year and give a peek into what lies in store for our audiences in the year ahead. Proceeds from the event will go to support WGT's efforts in the creation of The Broken Chord, a full-length play that will premiere in April as part of Hancher's 2012-2013 season. The play focuses on the role of the caregiver in families that are coping with Alzheimer's Disease.
Admission to Was the Word is always PAY WHAT YOU CAN. Working Group Theatre believes in this method of ticket sales, because it allows everyone access to the theatre. It only works if some people pay more than others...if we all just PAY WHAT WE CAN. Suggested admission for one person is $10. Remember also, that the more you pay the greater the good for our non-profit beneficiaries.
This event is part of the Intimate at the Englert Series — presented by Hands Jewelers, with additional support from Little Village. Intimate events feature both the audience and the performers onstage together: the connection between artist and audience will be direct and electrifying.
