Intimate At The Englert: Where Audience Meets Stage
Posted on February 25, 2025 by Ella Kang

“Not a bad seat in the theatre” is what we often hear from patrons, but what if you could claim the best seats in the house? Come see an Intimate at The Englert show for your chance!

At an Intimate at The Englert show, patrons get the opportunity to sit on the very stage the artists perform on. With only a few rows of seats laid out across the stage and the artists playing right up close, our historic theatre transforms into a whole new kind of venue. Rather than a bustling 715-seat space, the room becomes a close-knit circle of warm energy and rich tones.
What can you expect?
By being on stage with the artists themselves, the relationship between the audience and musician is almost cinematic. Every facial expression as the artist strikes a chord is heightened, and the nuance of each hum and strum feels more palpable. It creates a different dimension to the idea of a ‘front row seat’.’
Some past favorite intimate shows include Dave Moore & Elijah Wald in 2024, beloved blues singer Catfish Keith in 2022, Japanese sound artist FUJI||||||||||TA in 2022, and acclaimed harpist Mary Lattimore in 2021.
After rising indie band Humbird’s show last year, audience member Jeffrey G. said, “The sound and atmosphere was incredible. I just really enjoyed the ambience of sitting on the stage.”
Another audience member, Linda N., said these kinds of small events made her “feel like a part of a caring community” and that it magnified the storytelling.
Because of the unique technical setup, music lovers are surrounded by sound in a way not often had in most traditional spaces. The waves of music wrap around you from all directions as the proximity with artists give you a deeper understanding and appreciation for the notes or lyrics.
With only a few intimate shows each season, there is a limited number of opportunities for you to experience the magic of an Intimate at The Englert show. Luckily, we have three coming this spring, including Stillhouse Junkies on February 27, Mariee Siou on March 9, and Katie Dahl on April 30.
