The month of May felt so good at The Englert. We collaborated on two powerful community engagement events and had some beautiful sets on stage at The Englert (thanks, production team). After Lucius and Magnetic Fields played, it felt like a breath of fresh spring air. In the thick of working at a nonprofit performing arts theatre, it’s so lovely to be reminded that THIS is why we do what we do.
All of the photos were taken by our Marketing Coordinator, Cat Dooley! (thanks, Cat!)
The fellowship, now in its seventh year, was created in partnership with the University of Iowa to support the professional development of one student in the Nonfiction Writing Program each year by providing close access to The Englert’s arts programming and resources. This month, Lauren Childs worked within The Englert’s education program by leading a creative writing workshop for the youth that explored the relationship between the human mind, body, and various forms of art, including music, theatre, and writing. (thanks, Whit + Lauren)
Lucius performs on our stage with a fully red set, large cacti, and a red mailbox filled with love letters from fans on tour ~ which they read aloud while sitting in two white lawn chairs.
United Action for Youth, The Englert Theatre, and the Iowa City Public Library present the second annual Crock-Pot Battle of the Bands event at the UAY Swaim Youth Center. The event features performances by youth performers, followed by feedback given by a panel of judges from our local music scene. (thanks, Whit!)
