ABOUT THE FILM

The documentary is a heartfelt exploration of the songwriting community in Iowa City, told through the lens of a dozen different songwriters living and working in town today. The short film delves into some of the musicians and venues that have kept the tradition of songwriting in Iowa City alive over the years, and how the city itself has been a source of inspiration for their music and careers. Uncover the broad impact of songwriting as a craft on Iowa City’s dynamic music scene, as local artists share their visceral account of what it’s like to be a songwriter in this spirited town.

The documentary is part of a greater initiative The Englert has been taking to celebrate the tradition of songwriting in Iowa City and to make Iowa City a must-stop destination for world-class songwriters.
