A Year With Frog And Toad: Over 1,200 First Graders Experience The Englert

Posted on March 17, 2025 by Paige Samek

Last month, The Englert Theatre welcomed over 1,200 first graders from the Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) for A Year with Frog and Toad, produced by Nolte Academy and Iowa Conservatory. This whimsical musical was made possible through our partnership with the ICCSD Foundation Any Given Child program and the Iowa City Downtown District, which introduced young audiences to the magic of live theatre.

We are especially grateful to MidWestOne, our Englert Education sponsor, and the Sarah Shonrock Educational Fund for supporting our mission. Named in honor of our former Operations Director, Sarah Shonrock, the fund continues her legacy of ensuring arts education access for all students.

A Year with Frog and Toad follows two best friends—the cheerful Frog and the grumpy Toad—through four seasons of friendship, growth, and adventure. The show’s vibrant storytelling and lively performances captivated students, many of whom were experiencing live theatre for the first time.

Thanks to our partners and supporters, we look forward to welcoming more students to The Englert and continuing to inspire a love for the arts!

MidWestOne Bank makes our Englert Education programming possible.

Thank you so much to MidWestOne for sponsoring Englert Education! Their support helps make our engagements, workshops, and other educational experiences more accessible to our community.
