Intimate at The Englert

This concert is an Intimate On-Stage Seating event. Intimate events at The Englert (approx. 50 audience members) bring both the audience and the performers onstage together. The connection between artist and audience is direct and electrifying. If you need any accessibility assistance at the event, please reach out to our Box Office prior to the show!

Lizzie No is a folk rock band, a singer-songwriter, and a revolutionary artist in the Black Womanist tradition. Their acclaimed genre-defying third studio album, ‘Halfsies,’ was released in 2024. Rolling Stone named Lizzie one of their “Future 25” artists of the year, and country ballad “The Heartbreak Store” was nominated for International Song of the Year at the Americana UK awards. The ‘Halfsies’ tour made stops all across the United States and Europe, including shows with Iron & Wine and Dispatch. In January 2025 they released the electrifying live album ‘Commie Country.’

As cohost of the Basic Folk podcast and contributing writer at the Bluegrass Situation, Lizzie has interviewed luminaries from across the roots music universe, including Ben Harper, Molly Tuttle, Swamp Dogg, and Billy Bragg.

Lizzie was born in the Bronx, raised in New Jersey, and now resides in North Nashville when off the road. They are funding their artistic pursuits via OnlyFans under the username handsomelizzie. No is a graduate of Stanford University, a dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, and Berlin’s mom. Berlin is a dog and a wizard.

About Michael Schodin:

Joytrip is an eclectic-electric-indie-folk collective creating vivid and honest music. Drawing from diverse musical backgrounds, Joytrip seeks to bring out the colorful and excitingly cool. Their debut EP, “Mr. Time and the Joyful Ploys,” was released in summer 2023, and was followed in 2024 with their live short film/recording project: “Live from Lauderdale Lakes.” Joytrip has performed high-energy and beautifully stripped down sets in Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, Ann Arbor, Iowa City and more. Thriving in live performances with lengthy, expressive and evergreen sets, Joytrip shines when moving, listening and creating together. As writers and listeners, Joytrip has worked hard to craft songs that help hold hands through political turmoil, global violence, interpersonal love and more. Being present for each other in and out of musical moments, the group holds fast to sincerity and kindness; kindness in the familial sense and the loving sense. Even moreso, the band writes songs inspired by the great artists of all time: Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Bob Dylan, Florist, Alok, Molly Tuttle, Butcher Brown, Sierra Ferrell, Slow Pulp, Father John Misty and more. Joytrip has new music out now, “leaving state.” With more clear sound both literally and conceptually, these new songs are more reflective of this time and a closer attempt at our collective vision. Joytrip often performs as a duo, solo or full band – taking inspiration from many artists that spoke as clearly individually as they do in a collective.

Michael Schodin is a musician and audio engineer living in Iowa City. His writing, guitar/vocal facility and producing ear was developed in Chicago, playing at world class-venues and listening to the likes of Whitney, The 1975 and Odesza. Schodin writes with a broad palate, incorporating modern electronic production and bare-bones expressive acoustic sounds.

The band is fully independent with members managing multiple roles. Michael Schodin handles guitar, vocals, recording and audio engineering; Eddie Hochman contributes guitar, trumpet, keyboards, and vocals. Bennett Shapiro on drums and vocals, while Mitchell Wisniewski’s bass (and mandolin) unifies their sound. The band is immensely grateful for the opportunity to play music, together.
