Throughout the year, we present a variety of events and resources, often in partnership with other local nonprofits, that are opportunities to participate in community building and learning through storytelling.

Meet Whit, our Community Engagement Coordinator!

2025.6.14 QCS 13 — Through the Strengthen Grow Evolve Campaign in partnership with FilmScene, The Englert created a Community Engagement role in order to ensure audiences are provided regular opportunities in our spaces and in the community. Whit Martinez, our Community Engagement Coordinator, has created Englert staple events like the Queer Coffee and Disability Community Socials.

Queer Coffee Social

The Queer Coffee Social is a quarterly event that creates a safe and engaging space for queer folks to meet other queer folks in the community. Along with complimentary coffee and pastries, attendees can participate in crafting, artmaking exercises, guest panels, and more! This event is free and open to the public. Keep an eye on our events calendar for the next QCS date!

Disability Community Social

The Queer Coffee Social is a recurring event intended to create a safer space for conversation about disability in our community. The event provides space for the disability community and allies to gather, making meaningful connections in Iowa City. Attendees enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks, and the event often features an activity, like collaborative art. This event is free and open to the public.
