Job Description

Working closely with the Box Office Manager and other staff, you will represent The Englert through excellent customer service and engage with patrons, artists, and staff to assist with front-facing inquiries and other operational needs.

Anticipated Work Schedule

Hours can fluctuate from 5 – 25 hours per week with an anticipated average of 10 hours/week. The position will require work hours that fall during standard Box Office times (10am-6pm on Tue, 10am-4pm on Wed-Fri), as well as some hours that occur in the evenings and/or weekends during events.

Core Job Duties

  • Serve as front line representative for the theatre, greeting and engaging patrons with a customer service focus
  • Communicate clearly and diplomatically with all departments passing along pertinent information regarding event and business operations
  • Sell tickets and explain ticket and membership options including actively promoting our Friends of the Englert program
  • Answer patron questions in person and over the phone using ticketing  and development software efficiently and effectively 
  • Assist patrons in person and over the phone with ticket purchases, requests, and questions regarding the theatre
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct business inquiries to the proper department
  • Make outgoing calls to patrons regarding event and business information as requested
  • Make recommendations to management on better processes as identified during daily routine
  • Open and/or close box office following company policies and guidelines 
  • Maintain box office with basic maintenance as needed and requested
  • Print and organize Will Call tickets, print and mail ticket fulfillment, and assist with mail and package receipt and delivery as needed
  • Practice safe and proper cash handling procedures including completing a daily Box Office deposit and report
  • Serve as a hub of Englert and general Iowa City information
  • Verify ticket buyer address or check ID for Will Call tickets as requested
  • Assist house managers with ticket scanning procedures and volunteer set up
  • Maintain working knowledge of venue life safety protocols as outlined in the Emergency Operations Plan as well as what applies directly to front of house operations

Required Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  • Prior experience working in live events, hospitality, or retail is a plus!
  • An interest in live music and performing arts

    The Performing Arts Industry

    Our organization’s schedule follows the touring industry, with busy seasons in September-December and February-May. This position is subject to non-traditional work hours, like working events in the evening.
