Description
Old Capitol Opera’s first annual Children’s Outreach Program!
This production of Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel is condensed into an hour long opera telling the Brothers Grimm story of two adolescent siblings who are sent off by their mother to search for strawberries. They wander off the path to find a beautiful house made of gingerbread! Of course the owner of that house is none other than a Witch who has secret motives of baking the brother and sister into gingerbread cookies!
This opera includes local professional singers, apprentice singers, AND a “Gingerbread Cookie Chorus” made up of children from ages 10-14. The Gingerbread house is also decorated by children from the Iowa City community!
Three performances will be held at the Englert Theatre Friday evening May 29, 7:30pm, A Special children’s matinee Saturday May 30, 2pm, and Saturday evening May 30, 7:30pm. Please click here for ticket options, or call the Englert Box Office at 319-688-2653.
