The Iowa City New Horizons Band (NHB) and Iowa City Community Band (ICCB) will be coming together for their annual joint holiday concert once again at the Englert Theatre. Both bands are volunteer/non-audition organizations. Since 1995, NHB has provided opportunities for “chronologically gifted” adults to learn to play a musical instrument and enjoy playing with others. ICCB has been together since 1982 and is open to high schoolers and older. NHB is directed by Tyler Strickland, a DMA candidate in Wind Conducting at the University of Iowa. ICCB is directed by Rob Medd, one of the band directors at Iowa City West High School. This concert will feature an assortment of holiday music and other tunes. Among them are the familiar “Christmas Time with Charlie Brown,” “Green Sleeves,” “Here We Come A’Wassailing,” and “Stars & Stripes for Christmas.” One of our favorites is “Sleigh Ride” by LeRoy Anderson.
The bands will be following The Englert’s Covid Safety Policy. The Englert will be responsible for validating guests and performers.
