Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s famous one-act opera “The Impresario” has been rebooted to fit into today’s world of raunchy sit-coms. Sung in English with spoken dialogue this edgy singspiel, with a fresh script written by Iowa City local, Franklyn Tomas pokes fun at the modern world of opera. Made up of only four singers, the opera tells an hour long story of a struggling theatre company trying to get back on its feet after some recently failed productions. The competition between two sopranos (who are awful-terrible people), comes to an explosive head after many offensive insults are thrown about.
