Threads and Powders: An Iowan Fashion & Textile Exhibit” features a textile art exhibition at The Englert Theatre this September 10th of 2021. YAZZIEWONPHON, the producer and director, is thrilled to be announcing this unique Iowan-based collection of phenomenal artists who work with a process or material that includes threads and powders. The event will occur in the Douglas & Linda Paul Gallery, featuring Jager Palad, Dufié Sakyiama, Christian Woodruff, Kala’ï Blakemore, Jamin Shepherd, Zoe Hermsen and Kenzi Rayelle.
“Threads and Powders” was a consciously developed project to promote emerging and working artists from fields like textiles & fibers art, mixed media, and fashion design. The mission of T&P is to explore and reveal the complexities of these multi-faceted disciplines. To see where each of these fields crosses paths with one another and becomes blended. YAZZIEWONPHON, a recent BFA graduate in printmaking from The University of Iowa, wanted to create an opportunity for a unique ensemble of makers, designers, and artists who work with softer materials. And, perhaps, with materials that contrast from these more delicate elements. By using the event’s central themes– sustainable, transformative, and opulent–, every artist has an opportunity to showcase their vast creative directions with the people of Iowa.
