Was the Word is a monthly spoken word and storytelling event at The Englert Theatre in downtown Iowa City. Each event brings together community members and local performers to share their words and experiences on stage to benefit local non-profits or community service groups.

This evening we will be joined by Sara Sedlacek, Ngwah-Mbo Nana Nkweti, Lauren Haldeman, Kate Hawbaker-Krohn, Zora Hurst, Megan Gogerty all sharing their stories and poems around the theme: The End is Near. Interwoven among the words, Ben Schmidt will entertain us with his musical stylings. Beer and wine are available with proper ID.

Our non-profit beneficiary for the night is Successful Living Day Habilitation. A portion of all proceeds from the evening will be donated to this organization. Tickets are “pay what you want” from the Englert Box Office.
