American Filmmakers Series
Presented by MC GinsbergAll movies begin at 8PM and are FREE
This fall the Englert unveils a new film series. The American Filmmakers Series will feature the work of some our country’s greatest filmmakers, ranging from the gritty urban Americana of Martin Scorsese to the abstract reflections of Maya Deren. The fall series will focus on six directors: Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Peter Bogdonavich, Maya Deren, Kenneth Anger, and John Cassavettes. We hope to continue the series into the spring and feature an even wider, more diverse group of filmmakers. All films begin at 8PM and admission is FREE. The films will be projected on the Englert’s HD projector. The video source will be DVD. Look at our schedule to see which films are being shown on which dates.

Intimate at the Englert Series
Downtown Iowa City’s grandest performing arts venue has also just become one of its smallest, most intimate rooms. This fall, the Englert introduces a new series called Intimate at the Englert. These intimate events (approx. 75-100 audience members) will feature both the audience and the performers onstage together: the connection between artist and audience will be direct and electrifying. Audience members enjoy entering the theatre though the alley entrance, and then take the stage for events that are sometimes seated or standing-room only, depending on the performance. The cozy atmosphere of this series allows for performances by the exciting new talent being developed in Iowa City everyday: musicians, writers, actors, and more. There will also be events with national touring artists looking for a chance to be up close and personal with their audience.
Tickets will typically range from $5-$10. Check our schedule for specific performance times.
