Description
Dubbed “a true original with inimitable style” (Classical MPR), the American solo acoustic pianist’s career spans more than four decades and 15 million albums sold. Winston’s styles and inspirations are broad, but with a primary focus on “rural folk piano,” stride inspired by Fats Waller, and R&B piano, influenced by the likes of Henry Butler and Professor Longhair. His 14 solo albums include recordings dedicated to natural beauty and the music of his favorites, The Doors and Peanuts composer Vince Guaraldi. Winston is also an accomplished harmonica and Hawaiian slack-key guitar performer.
His forthcoming solo piano album, Spring Carousel, will be released on RCA Records on March 31. Spring Carousel was composed while Winston underwent bone marrow transplant treatment at City of Hope National Medical Center. Proceeds from the album will go to support City of Hope’s cancer treatment and research.
